Tutorial: Line Art to Coloring by JtkBasketball Tutorial: Line Art to Coloring by JtkBasketball
I hope this is helpful. ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE THEM.

This is a REALLY basic coloring. I don't think my technique is correct, but it works for me and hopefully for you too. I learned all of this from tutorials here on DA and this is my version.

I am not a great artist, but I just wanted to be helpful cause some tutorials are confusing. Once again I hope this helps you.

I use GIMP

to use the paths tool you do this
1) Select the tool
2) Check the polygonal box
3) Start clicking where you want to make a path
4) Choose stroke path
5) Choose your line width, I like 1.5 most times
6) Choose to stroke and the line will be there
7) Afterwards just reselect the paths tool and you can start making more paths (I use the shortcut key, I think it is B)

I was wondering.... on Gimp, after I select "stroke," the little dots/ anchors don't go away. :U Is there a reason for this, or am I doing something wrong? I'm a Gimp noob, so... X3

You are doing it right. I don't know if I explained this well enough.
Here is what I do.
1) Click Stroke Path (Path Should Be Stroked)
2) Then I hit "B" on my keyboard (That is the shortcut to the paths tool)
3) By selecting the Paths Tool again the lines should go away and you can start a new path.

Any other questions please ask, and thanks for the fave :D

I just want to ask is there any advantage to use this path tool rather than simply use the paintbrush?

coz i'm always use just the paintbrush for line art and i feel comfortable using it. but i can see that most other people are using this path tool.

this makes me wonder. oh, and i'm also quite new with this GIMP (uh, not so new actually, it's just i dont spent much time playing with it). btw, thanks for this tutorial!

Thanks for the comment. To answer you question, I use to be the same way. Then I tried out the path tool and it just seemed easier and quicker cause instead of keeping a steady hand I just click to plot points and I move em' around. My computer doesn't have a mouse so it is hard to keep my hand steady. It doesn't really matter what you use, the path is just my preference.

Actually, there is a way to bring back a path in GIMP if you accidentally hit some button while you're making it. It's very handy to know, so you can save yourself lots of trouble:

1) Go to the Paths dialog. It may already be available as a tab in the same window as the layers window, or you may have to physically open it up. To do the latter, I think it's under Windows-->dockable dialogs --> paths. Not sure about the name of the first option, but the rest is correct.
2) If you weren't using the paths dialog in the past, then you probably weren't giving your paths names... so now you'll have a Paths dialog with paths all named 'New path 1', 'New path 2' etc... This is why I like to name all my paths, in case I make some sort of mistake on, say, an arm or something like that, and want to tweak the lineart without having to remake everything.
3) The path that just recently disappeared is probably the one at the top of the list. There is an eye icon beside the path just like for layers, it makes that path visible or not. Click it to make sure it is the path you want. I recommend that you name the path at this point. You do it the same way you would for naming a layer.
4) To keep editing that path, right click on that path, then choose 'Path tool'.
5) Design away!

Uhhh, I'm not good with that part but make sure it is the downloadable version for your computer. I got a Mac Leopard 4.1.1 or something weird like that.
